BUTTER 2026

BUTTER is an immersive four-day cultural experience that centers the care and viability of artists representing the African diaspora. Serving as a new model for youth access and economic justice, the no-commission fine art fair gives 100% of the proceeds from art sales to the artists. Guests 18 and under are also free, as is BUTTER Education Day, supporting arts education for the next generation.

Taking place September 3–6, 2026 in The Stutz Building in downtown Indy, BUTTER features more than 50 emerging, mid-career, independent, and established artists, showcasing an intentionally-curated collection of contemporary artworks over the holiday weekend.

Featured in the Los Angeles Times, Forbes, Art Newspaper, Essence, The New York Times, and Ebony, BUTTER works to make art accessible, presenting the work with proper context, as one of the country’s most celebrated and impactful new art experiences.

VIP Weekend Tickets are $75 and include return access on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. General Admission Daily tickets are $40, which includes one-day unlimited access on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Preview Night tickets are also available for $150, which includes Thursday night and return access throughout the weekend. Tickets to MELT -- BUTTER's Official Dance Party -- are $30 ($25 early bird). Guests 18 and under are free!

1000 Words is a non-profit, Black-owned art space located in the heart of Indianapolis, deeply committed to uplifting emerging Black and Brown visual artists. Our mission is to offer a platform for our local artists, champion equity, and ensure art is accessible to all.

1000 Words has received recognition for our work in the community. We have won numerous awards four work in the commuity. join us as we implement programs that demonstrate collaboration, creativity, and community that enhance the quality of life in our city.

1000 Words is a safe space that highlights the work of under-represented, under-funded and often over-looked Black and Brown artists. We don’t charge artists to share and show their work. We provide a place for artists and curators to work and grow. We host free art events and classes open to the public.
