Final Friday Opening: The Human Experience, a Solo Exhibition by Rhonda Greene

  • 1000 Words Gallery 3328 East 10th Street Indianapolis, IN, 46201 United States (map)

Rhonda Greene, a self-taught photographer, hails from Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was born and raised. Photography has been an integral part of her life from an early age, as she was deeply influenced by her grandfather, a photojournalist for an African-American publication. It was observing her grandfather's work that ignited Rhonda's creative spark and propelled her towards exploring her own artistic journey.

Her current photographic series titled "The Human Experience," encapsulates the essence of social connection and emotional depth. The human experience means everything; it’s about the social connection—a feeling, a movement, thought, touch, or lesson—visually telling the stories of her subjects—some experiencing life-transforming phenomena. In her process, Rhonda places a strong emphasis on building interpersonal relationships with her subjects. She recognizes that the intimacy and vulnerability required for her close-up images necessitate a foundation of trust and understanding. By fostering a sense of safety and openness, Rhonda creates an environment where her subjects feel empowered to share their stories authentically.

Ultimately, Rhonda aims for her work to resonate with viewers on a deeper level. She seeks to evoke empathy and understanding, allowing people to walk away from her photographs feeling seen and understood. At the core of her practice lies a deep respect for the relationship between photographer and subject, with Rhonda viewing it as her responsibility to honor and represent the narratives entrusted to her through her photography.
